The main objective of this project is to construct a comprehensive inventory of ice-marginal lakes for Greenland using remote sensing data. Ice-marginal lakes are common and dynamic features in all glacierised regions of the world where they are commonly associated with hazards. A better understanding of the distribution, evolution and processes associated with ice-marginal lakes will help in (1) water management in highly variable and changing watersheds; (2) risk and hazard assessment; and (3) better understanding of ongoing environmental change (Haeberli et al., 2016).
The project is an option under ESA Glaciers cci.
