Asiaq carries out basic and applied research within a range of natural science disciplines related to the physical environment, addressed through integration of field, modelling, and remote sensing approaches from the plot to the regional scale. Asiaq’s research focuses on topics with societal relevance including:
- Climate – gradients, variability and trends of the atmosphere, cryosphere and links to the ecosystem
- Ice – changes in ice cover and their drivers
- Water – trends and variability of water resources, surface energy balance and the hydrological cycle
- Environment – sensitivity and energy potential of coastal zones by means of multiplatform and multitemporal remote sensing imagery
Through these activities Asiaq has the pleasure of working with a wide range of national and international partners and is always open to new collaboration. Asiaq is partner in the monitoring programmes PROMICE (Programme for Monitoring of the Greenland Ice Sheet) and GEM (Greenland Ecosystem Monitoring) as well as numerous national and international research projects, e.g. under the European Space Agency (ESA).
